As an immigrant to the United States, Congressman Garcia knows first-hand how important it is for us to support immigrant communities and create pathways to citizenship for undocumented residents. Rep. Robert Garcia (D-Calif.) went after Republicans on Wednesday for their use of an inaccurate chart on “illegal immigration in the U.S.” that was once on display during the July assassination attempt of Donald Trump.
Rep. Dan Bishop (R-N.C.), at a hearing on the Biden administration’s border policies, initially used the chart and referred to it as Trump’s “favorite.” Trump has credited it for saving his life when he turned his head to point to it at the Pennsylvania rally where a gunman shot him in the ear.
A House California Democrat is proposing a bill to fund legal defense services for people in immigration court, where only about a third of processed immigrants have legal representation.
Rep. Robert Garcia (D-Calif.) is introducing the Shield Act to provide $100 million in grants aimed at expanding the legal workforce defending immigration cases.
