Defending our Oceans, Beaches, and Wetlands
As a Representative for California’s coast and Channel Islands—including Long Beach, Catalina Island, and San Clemente Island—Congressman Garcia believes it’s vital to protect our beaches, oceans, and marine environment. Coastal communities across the country depend on Federal environmental protections for health and safety, climate resilience, jobs, and recreation. All of those priorities are in jeopardy unless Congress takes action to address issues like offshore drilling, plastic pollution, environmental degradation, and the impacts of toxic chemicals. Congressman Garcia has cosponsored legislation that would end offshore drilling off the West Coast and in the Arctic Ocean and hold polluters accountable. He’s pushed for transparency and accountability about the dumping of DDT, Navy explosives, and other toxic substances off the coast of Southern California. He also believes elected leaders need to do more to safeguard our environments and get much-needed funding for wildlife monitoring and habitat conservation. Every person in the United States should have the right to safe, clean, and sustainable environment. Coastal communities especially need Congress to defend our oceans, beaches, and wetlands to protect these rights for every American.
