Washington D.C.- Today, Congressman Robert Garcia (CA-42) sent a letter to CBS CEO George Cheeks following the network’s failure to properly caption musical phenomenon Bad Bunny’s Spanish language performance at the 2023 Grammy Awards. The network’s East Coast broadcast featured closed captioning that read “[SPEAKING NON-ENGLISH]” and “[SINGING IN NON-ENGLISH]”. The letter can be found here, excerpt below:

President Joe Biden is set to deliver his State of the Union address in Washington D.C. on Tuesday, and an undocumented Long Beach City College student, Alexis Muro, will be in attendance.

Muro will join Tuesday’s address as a guest of U.S. Rep. Robert Garcia.

As an undocumented student, “Alexis is a great example of how important it is to support immigrant communities and create pathways to citizenship,” Garcia said in a statement. The congressman and Muro share similar backgrounds; both immigrated to the U.S. as young children and were raised in Southern California.
