Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Robert Garcia (CA-42) released the following statement condemning Elon Musk’s takeover of the Treasury Department payment system, a non-political system that disperses trillions of dollars each year. This includes Social Security and Medicare benefits, tax credits for individuals and businesses, and grants and payments to government contractors.

Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Robert Garcia (CA-42) and thirteen Members of Congress representing Los Angeles County sent letters seeking answers to why evacuation warnings were accidentally sent to nearly 10 million L.A. County residents during the Los Angeles fires. Some individuals received delayed evacuation warnings, some received the same message multiple times, and millions received unnecessary warnings. This caused widespread alarm and reduced the potential impact of future alerts, threatening public safety.

Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Robert Garcia (CA-42) announced the reintroduction of the Fast-Track Logistics for Acquiring Supplies in a Hurry (FLASH) Act and Surveilling Effluent Water for Epidemic Response (SEWER) Act in the 119th Congress. The FLASH Act will help the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) cut through red tape to quickly buy critical medical materials during emergencies in future public health crises.

Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Robert Garcia (CA-42) announced the reintroduction of the ICE Security Reform Act in the 119th Congress, a bill to restructure Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) by elevating Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), currently a directorate within ICE, to the status of an independent law enforcement agency within the Department of Homeland Security. This reform would allow HSI to focus on public safety, law enforcement, and national security missions independently from ICE, with increased oversight and accountability.

Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Robert Garcia (CA-42) was named to serve on the Oversight Subcommittee on Delivering on Government Efficiency (DOGE), the new subcommittee chaired by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia. Congressman Garcia will use his position to fight back against the House GOP’s plans to attack the federal workforce, cut critical federal programs, including Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid, and give tax cuts for billionaires and the wealthiest corporations.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Robert Garcia (CA-42), Senator Jon Ossoff (D-GA), Senator James Lankford (R-OK), and Congressman Glenn Grothman’s (WI-06) bipartisan bill to cut waste and improve government service has been signed into law by President Biden. The legislation will increase government efficiency by eliminating unnecessary federal agency reports to Congress, saving taxpayer dollars and allowing agencies to focus on their core missions.
