Congressman Robert Garcia and Senator Jon Ossoff’s Bipartisan Bill to Cut Red Tape & Save Taxpayer Dollars Passes U.S. House

May 6, 2024

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Robert Garcia (CA-42) and Senator Jon Ossoff’s (D-GA) bipartisan bill to cut waste and improve government service has passed the U.S. House. The Eliminate Useless Reports Act is co-led by Senator James Lankford (R-OK) in the Senate and Representative Glenn Grothman (R-WI-06) in the House. The legislation will increase government efficiency by eliminating unnecessary federal agency reports to Congress, saving taxpayer dollars and allowing agencies to focus on their core missions.

"As a former mayor, I know how often we produce outdated and useless government reports. It takes up time from hardworking government employees, which is why I worked with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to pass the Eliminate Useless Reports Act,” said Congressman Robert Garcia. “I will continue to advocate for common-sense reforms that promote fiscal responsibility and streamline processes within the federal government.”

The bipartisan bill will reform a defunct process for federal agencies to make recommendations about which Congressionally mandated reports should be sunset, consolidated, or reduced in frequency — helping eliminate unnecessary federal spending. Full text of the bipartisan Eliminate Useless Reports Act is available here.

Congressman Garcia continues working to cut red tape within the federal government. On the Oversight Committee, he helps to oversee the efficiency of all government operations. Last year, he introduced the “FLASH Act” Fast-Track Logistics for Acquiring Supplies in a Hurry Act of 2023, to help the Department of Health and Human Services cut through red tape to quickly buy critical medical materials during emergencies—from PPE to tests and vaccines—as well as the critical materials needed to make and distribute medical supplies.
