Defending Democracy
Congressman Garcia believes that one of the biggest threats facing the Unites States today comes from efforts to undermine our democratic process by restricting access to the ballot and attacking the legitimacy of the electoral process. Congressman Garcia knows that we need leaders who will work to defend our civil rights, and this starts with making voting accessible to every American regardless of their background.

Downey Patriot: There was a story in NPR last month that called the 118th Congress “the most unproductive in decades.” The most recent Gallup poll reported a 15% approval rating from the public. What do you think when you read stories like that?
Garcia: I mean, I’m not surprised. I think that you have so many members of Congress that just want to obstruct and not have any progress.

Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene abruptly walked out of a House committee hearing on Tuesday after being accused of hugging and high-fiving defendants in the January 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol. [...]
Garcia, who was selected to speak following Greene's comments, slammed the congresswoman over her remarks, accusing her of "coddling" those arrested in the January 6 attack.
"I want to remind the gentlelady that it was her that actually organized a trip to the D.C. jail to hug and high-five and sit with the insurrectionists that actually attacked our Capitol," he said. "So, if we're talking about the safety of D.C., and the Capitol, it is quite, I think, ironic."
Midway through Garcia's comments, Greene stood up and walked out.
