Congressman Robert Garcia Named Member of “DOGE” House Oversight Subcommittee
Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Robert Garcia (CA-42) was named to serve on the Oversight Subcommittee on Delivering on Government Efficiency (DOGE), the new subcommittee chaired by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia. Congressman Garcia will use his position to fight back against the House GOP’s plans to attack the federal workforce, cut critical federal programs, including Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid, and give tax cuts for billionaires and the wealthiest corporations.
“Billionaire Elon Musk and President Trump are going to use DOGE to attack our federal workforce and the critical programs we rely on,” said Congressman Garcia. “Marjorie Taylor Greene and her extremist allies are helping push a radical agenda in this subcommittee that includes eliminating the Department of Education and programs for seniors and veterans. We’re ready to fight back on day one, call out attempts to slash our social safety net, and make sure we take care of working families and the middle class.”
The Subcommittee on Delivering on Government Efficiency will have oversight jurisdiction over the federal civil service, including compensation, classification, and benefits; federal property disposal; government reorganizations and operations, including transparency, performance, grants management, and accounting measures generally.
Congressman Garcia has consistently championed government efficiency while safeguarding the social safety net. As a member of the House Oversight Committee, he has been instrumental in scrutinizing government operations to ensure transparency and accountability, passing two bills which later became law, to enhance government efficiency. Congressman Garcia pushed back on proposed cuts which will harm the middle class and working families. Congressman Garcia has been a vocal advocate for protecting programs like Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid, opposing any attempts to cut these vital services to fund tax benefits for the ultra-wealthy. He co-sponsored the Social Security 2100 Act, which comprehensively strengthens and expands Social Security for all Americans, and the Social Security Fairness Act, ensuring millions of public servants get the full benefits that they worked so hard to earn, which became law under President Biden.
