Congressman Robert Garcia Appointed to Serve on House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee
Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Robert Garcia (CA-42) was appointed to serve on the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure in the 119th Congress. Congressman Garcia’s new assignment will allow him to champion his district’s most pressing transportation and infrastructure priorities.
“I am honored to have been appointed to the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, where I’m going to fight for our region and state to ensure we get the investments we deserve at our ports, rail and transit systems, and the Long Beach Airport,” said Congressman Garcia. “As home to the Port of Long Beach, we know how essential robust transportation and infrastructure networks are to driving our nation’s economy and good paying jobs. Let’s bring these dollars home.”
The House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure is responsible for overseeing America’s transportation networks, including highways, mass transit, aviation, and maritime activities. The committee shapes policies that determine the safety, efficiency, and sustainability of our nation’s transportation systems, and plays a crucial role in disaster relief, managing oversight of emergency preparedness and response systems. Additionally, the committee has oversight over the Department of Transportation, Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the Coast Guard, the nation’s emergency preparedness and response systems, and federal buildings.
Congressman Garcia has always fought to improve transportation infrastructure. Congressman Garcia currently serves as the co-chair of the Congressional Ports Opportunity, Renewal, Trade, and Security (PORTS) Caucus, which advocates for the needs of an efficient and sustainable freight infrastructure network. In 2024, Congressman Garcia led the Los Angeles County delegation to advocate for funding for Metro’s Southeast Gateway Line Project. He joined forces with Senator Elizabeth Warren to introduce the BUILD GREEN Infrastructure and Jobs Act, which aims to provide $500 billion over ten years to update and electrify public transportation and rail systems across the country. Congressman Garcia also helped secure over $283 million in federal grant money for the completion of the North Rail Yard Expansion and the South Rail Yard Expansion at the Port of Long Beach, which is estimated to create over 13,000 jobs nationwide. Congressman Garcia also introduced the People Over Parking Act to eliminate minimum parking space requirements near transit hubs, encouraging more housing and walkable urban areas. As Mayor of Long Beach, his Measure A initiative started the largest infrastructure repair program in a generation, creating good jobs for union workers.
