Congressman Robert Garcia Announces Federal Grant for Huntington Park Safe Street Infrastructure
Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Robert Garcia (CA-42) announced that the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) has awarded a $413,600 grant to the City of Huntington Park to develop a city-wide comprehensive safety action plan. Funded through the Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) Program, this initiative aims to address insufficient pedestrian and bicycling infrastructure and high vehicle speeds in the city’s dense urban community.
“It’s great to see Huntington Park receive the federal funding it needs to create safer streets for everyone,” said Congressman Garcia. “This grant will help the city enact a comprehensive safety action plan to improve road infrastructure and reduce traffic-related deaths. By using data to identify safety risks, the plan will work to improve road conditions and save lives.”
“As a city, we are deeply grateful to Congressman Garcia for his support in securing federal funding to develop a city-wide comprehensive safety action plan,” said City Manager Ricardo Reyes. “This investment allows us to take meaningful steps toward improving roadway safety, protecting our residents, and creating safer streets for everyone in our community.”
The Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) grant program, part of President Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, is designed to help communities reduce traffic-related deaths and injuries. This funding will allow Huntington Park to use data to identify and address the most dangerous areas on the road, focusing on solutions that protect pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers. This grant builds on the city’s existing Local Road Safety Plan, which has already identified key safety issues and proposed solutions. The new action plan will prioritize projects such as reducing vehicle speeds, improving crosswalks, and enhancing bike lanes.
Congressman Garcia will always fight for critical funding and work to improve our community’s infrastructure. This year, he helped secure over $372 million in grant funding for various projects across the district, including port security, clean energy transportation, and Head Start programs. He helped secure over $283 million in federal funding for the Port of Long Beach’s Pier B On-Dock Rail Facility to reduce truck traffic and improve safety. In May, Garcia teamed up with Senator Elizabeth Warren to introduce the BUILD GREEN Infrastructure and Jobs Act, investing $500 billion to electrify public vehicles and rail while building new electric transportation infrastructure.
