Congressman Robert Garcia’s Statement on New Oversight Committee Report Revealing Trump Received Millions from Foreign Governments as President

January 4, 2024

Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Robert Garcia (CA-42) released the following statement after the Oversight Committee released a report revealing former President Donald Trump received at least $7.8 million from foreign governments while in office. Congressman Garcia serves on the Oversight Committee and is Ranking Member on the Subcommittee on National Security, the Border, and Foreign Affairs.

“This new report proves what we’ve known all along: Donald Trump and his family engaged in crime and corruption while he held the highest office in the United States. We already knew Jared Kushner walked away with over $2 billion just months after his father-in-law left office, but we now know that Donald Trump himself had no problem engaging with foreign entities as President, violating the Constitution and his vow to the American people.

Meanwhile, Chairman Comer continues to cover for Donald Trump as he halts all further investigations into this matter. Instead, Comer is happily focusing on the sham impeachment of President Biden, in which their investigations have yielded ZERO evidence of any wrongdoing by the President. The hypocrisy is stunning.”

Today, Members of the House Oversight and Accountability Committee held an on-the-record briefing on this devastating report. The new report and documents are part of Oversight Committee Democrats’ multi-year investigation into payments accepted by former President Trump’s businesses from foreign governments during his term in office, in violation of the Constitution. Congressman Garcia has been a prominent voice in calling out the Trump Family and the business they conducted during their tenure in the White House.
