Congressman Robert Garcia Statement on Democrats Averting Government Shutdown and Delivering for the American People

Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Robert Garcia (CA-42) released the following statement after Democrats averted a government shutdown:

“This vote was a win for the American people and will avert what could have been a disastrous shutdown for millions across the country. What could have been a catastrophic proposal for seniors, teachers, and asylum seekers is now an enormous step towards forward to fully fund the federal government.  This 45-day extension is only a temporary solution. I am absolutely committed fighting for a long-term funding bill which supports Ukraine’s freedom and defeats the destructive GOP agenda once and for all.  As members of Congress, our job is to keep the government open and functioning, and that is what we did here today. Kevin McCarthy refused to work with Democrats, while empowering his extremist fringe but we left him no choice. Let me be absolutely clear, Republicans did not have to wait until the 11th hour to act. Focusing on a sham impeachment inquiry instead of on funding the government is a choice they made at the cost of the American people. ”
