Congressman Robert Garcia Elected Democratic Caucus Leadership Representative

Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Robert Garcia (CA-42) was elected as the new Democratic Caucus Leadership Representative, a key leadership role that will ensure the voices of newer Members are heard at the decision-making table. As President of the current Democratic Freshman Class, Congressman Garcia has consistently worked to elevate the perspectives of new Members.

“I am deeply grateful for the trust my colleagues have placed in me by electing me to be their Caucus Leadership Representative,” said Congressman Garcia. “We have serious work ahead to build a governing majority that reflects the priorities of the American people and fights for the future of our country. I am looking forward to the work ahead.” 

The Caucus Leadership Representative role was created to ensure newer generations of Members have a voice in the Caucus and addresses the need for inclusion and modern solutions in today’s political landscape. This role represents over sixty percent of the Democratic Caucus and is one of thirteen elected leadership positions. Members eligible to vote have served in Congress for fewer than five terms. Congressman Robert Garcia’s platform focuses on amplifying new voices, enhancing communication strategies, and modernizing the Caucus while working to keep all Members safe in the era of rising political violence.

Congressman Garcia has spent the past two years working to build unity and promote inclusion. As the only LGBTQ+ Member of Caucus Leadership, Congressman Garcia will ensure that LGBTQ+ rights are represented in leadership discussions.

Congressman Garcia is committed to advocating for working families, ensuring the safety of all Members and Congressional staff, and amplifying diverse voices within the leadership of the party.
