Congressman Garcia Statement on Appointment to House Oversight Committee

Washington D.C.- Congressman Robert Garcia (CA-42) today released the following statement following the announcement that he will be serving on the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability. 

“I am honored and fired up to have been appointed to the House Committee on Oversightand Accountability. We are at a pivotal time in our nation’s history where truth and facts are being attacked by MAGA extremists every day. I am committed to fighting and pushing back on the lies that will be made by GOP oversight committee members Marjorie Taylor Greene and Lauren Boebert.” said Congressman Garcia. 

“Republicans have already announced that they plan to focus all their attention on launching ridiculous political attacks against the President, and our pandemic response while elevating the most dangerous and extreme voices in their caucus. At a time when Americans need a government that will lower costs, improve access to healthcare and education, and level the playing field, the Republican majority is doing nothing to deliver for them and doing everything to deliver for Tucker Carlson and Fox News.” 

The GOP has made clear that they will be using taxpayer money to focus on nonsense partisan investigations ranging from  investigating President Biden, Hunter Biden, relitigating the origins of COVID-19, stoking divisive culture war topics that will do nothing for the American people, and stoking panic over the border rather than engaging in a constructive conversation on immigration and border security.

Congressman Garcia immigrated to the United States as a young child and was raised in Southern California, becoming a proud U.S. citizen in his 20's. He holds an M.A. from the University of Southern California and an Ed.D. in Higher Education from Cal State Long Beach, where he also earned his B.A. in Communications.

Congressman Garcia believes in defending our democracy, leveling the playing field with progressive education policy, addressing the climate crisis, supporting working families with increasing wages, and fighting to expand and protect essential rights for women, immigrants, and the LGBTQI+ community.
