Press Telegram - Garcia presents $3.4 million in federal funds to upgrade child development center at CSU Long Beach
Rep. Robert Garcia, D-Long Beach, presented Cal State Long Beach with nearly $3.5 million in federal funds, which will pay for renovations at the university’s Isabel Patterson Child Development Center, on Friday, April 5.
The center offers child care for students, faculty and staff at the university.
“As an educator, I believe in the power of education to transform lives,” said Garcia. “This funding is not just an investment in facilities; it’s an investment in families and in students who are tirelessly working towards their degrees while raising small children.”
Once completed, the upgraded facility aims to provide child care to additional students who are earning a degree while raising small children.
On hand for Friday’s presentation were CSULB President Jane Conoley and Alec Colchico, director of the Isabel Patterson Child Development Center.
“Access to child care is essential for some of our Beach students, allowing them to focus on their studies and successfully graduate,” said Conoley.
