Ports of LA, Long Beach get federal funding to bolster security

Federal funding to bolster port safety has been designated for both the ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles.
The Long Beach port will receive $4.3 million, while its Los Angeles neighbor will receive $2 million.
U.S. Rep. Robert Garcia, D-Long Beach, announced the POLB award in a Tuesday, July 25, news release.
“Ports are the economic engine of our community and our country,” Garcia, Long Beach’s former mayor, said in the news release “As mayor, I saw the threats we face and the importance of federal assistance. This funding will protect our community and our economy, and I will continue to go to bat for our unique needs.”
