MeidasTouch News – Top Dem Confirms Mike Johnson’s Worst Midterm Fear in 3 Words

August 27, 2026

House Speaker Mike Johnson tried to scare voters Thursday with a “nightmare” vision of what Democrats would do if they take back the House.

One of the Democrats who could actually make that vision a reality had just three words for him: “He’s not wrong.”

Rep. Robert Garcia, the ranking Democrat on the powerful House Oversight Committee, quickly responded to a MeidasTouch Instagram video highlighting Johnson’s warning about the consequences of Republicans losing the midterms.

Johnson made the comments while campaigning in Texas for Webb County Judge Tano Tijerina, the Republican challenger taking on Democratic Rep. Henry Cuellar in a battleground South Texas district.

“This is for all the marbles. We cannot lose this midterm,” Johnson told the crowd. “I want you to imagine a nightmare scenario with these insurgent Marxist Democrats taking over the Congress.”

Then Johnson dropped his warning.

“They would impeach the president on the first day,” he claimed. “They’ve already said what they’re going to do.”

Johnson predicted that a Democratic House would turn its attention immediately to Trump, his family and his administration.

“They’ll convert every committee of Congress into an investigative body,” Johnson said. “They’ll spend every waking hour investigating the president and his family and the Cabinet and going on this lawfare exercise.”

The speaker warned that Democratic investigations would “roil the markets,” undermine confidence in the U.S. and its economy and “empower our enemies across the globe at the worst possible time.”

Commentators quickly noted that is what exactly is happening right now under Trump’s regime.

“We cannot allow them to do that,” Johnson said.

Garcia assured Mike Johnson that he was correct to be worried about investigations into Trump and his family.

“He’s not wrong,” the California Democrat wrote in response to MeidasTouch’s report.

And Garcia would be in a particularly powerful position to follow through.

As the ranking Democrat on the House Oversight Committee, Garcia is currently the panel’s top Democratic member. If Democrats capture the House, they would gain control of congressional committees and the investigative powers that come with them, including the ability to issue subpoenas and convene hearings. Democrats would once again have the institutional power to investigate the Trump regime.

The speaker also made clear that Republicans plan to put Trump, a historically unpopular president, at the center of their effort to prevent the House from flipping.

“The president is going to look right into the camera, to his base, and he’s going to say, ‘I am on the ballot,’ okay?” Johnson said.

“Because even though his name isn’t in a midterm, his legacy is,” Johnson added.

Johnson meant the prospect of congressional investigations as a warning. But to many voters, it is exactly the reason they hope to see Democrats take the gavel.

And the top Democrat on the House’s investigative committee, who was largely responsible for pushing forward the investigation into the Epstein Files, appears ready to go.
