MeidasTouch News - EXCLUSIVE: Democratic Congressmen Probe Trump Administration's Use of Private DMs on Truth Social and Twitter to Communicate

October 29, 2025

This afternoon, MeidasTouch obtained exclusive information revealing that leading Democrats on the House Oversight Committee, led by Congressman Robert Garcia and Congressman Suhas Subramanyam, have launched an investigation into the Trump Administration’s use of private and unauthorized social media platforms for official government business.

According to documents reviewed by MeidasTouch, formal letters were sent to both Truth Social and X (formerly Twitter) requesting preservation and production of records that could reveal previously undisclosed communications among Trump Administration officials, including President Donald Trump, and foreign government representatives.

The Letter to Truth Social

In the letter sent to Truth Social CEO Devin Nunes, committee members advised the company that an official investigation is underway regarding the Trump Administration’s potential use of unauthorized messaging platforms for government business.

“As a social messaging platform with private messaging capability, Truth Social is in possession of information and records that are critical to this investigation and any related investigation,” the letter reads.

The correspondence serves as a formal notice to preserve all relevant materials, instructing the company not to alter, delete, destroy, or otherwise dispose of any documents, communications, materials, or electronically stored information that may relate to the matter.

The preservation order applies to all materials in the company’s possession, custody, or control from January 20, 2025, and includes but is not limited to:

  • All private messages on Truth Social between or among Trump Administration officials, including Donald Trump
  • All private messages between Trump Administration officials and foreign government officials
  • All private messages sent by Trump Administration officials discussing official U.S. government business
  • All accounts on Truth Social belonging to Trump Administration officials, including Donald Trump
  • Backups and archived data
  • Electronic documents
  • Server logs and system data
  • Social media content and metadata

The Letter to X

A similar letter was sent to executives at X, requesting that the company provide records of private messages involving Trump Administration officials. The Oversight Committee’s request to X includes:

  • All private messages between or among Trump Administration officials, including Donald Trump
  • All communications with foreign government officials
  • Any messages discussing official U.S. government business
  • Account information, backups, archived data, server logs, and metadata related to Trump Administration officials

The committee’s notice to X mirrors the preservation demands made to Truth Social, emphasizing that the scope includes all devices and third-party platforms used for communications.

The investigation could shed light on how the Trump Administration handled sensitive or classified discussions and whether communications conducted outside official channels violated federal transparency and recordkeeping requirements.

If evidence confirms that official business was conducted through unauthorized platforms, it could raise new legal and ethical questions about the administration’s handling of government communications and digital records.
